In 2010 the Tavarnuzze power grid station began operating a new 380 kV power circuit as part of a nation-wide power grid improvement. After three years of successful operation, the grid has been expanded with additional AP Sensing DTS devices to monitor a 2nd 380 kV circuit to the Fontelupo station.
This setup involves two parallel underground cables until reaching Fontelupo, where it changes to overhead lines. This expansion also addressed challenges of having buried lines near populated areas and below road crossings. Horizontal drilling was needed to complete the construction.
